Womens Mule Shoes
There is often confusion among styles of footwear. Sometimes it can be hard to separate the differences such as clogs and mules. Without looking into further details, the different would not be that noticeable. The great thing about our modern technology is the ability to find anything we want to know with a touch of a button.
The style of Mules is often a backless and closed toed shoe. In reality they can fall into other categories besides mules. They can be slip-ons and clogs as well. The heel of this shoe does not really matter. It can be a flat heel or even have a little height to it. Typically Mules are worn by women. In the 18th Century, Womens Mules were considered a popular indoor shoe. By the 20th century they were often associated with prostitutes. In 1950 a famous celebrity furthered the fame of this style of Footwear. Her name was Marilyn Monroe. When she popularized Mules, many of the negative associations were forgotten.
These shoes can be worn for many occasions. Mainly they are chosen to be worn in casual settings. This would be anytime you are just out on the town leisurely killing time with your friends. Because of the ease of use, they work great for those quick jaunts to the nearby General store to pick up odds and ends that you may need. Formal settings are not exactly ideal for Womens Mules. There are styles that have some class to them and with the right outfit can be pulled off. As a business shoe I would recommend something a little more professional. Certain styles and colors have the potential to work for these other occasions, but keep an eye out as you do your shopping.
Just like any other shoe, there are many brands that offer this particular style. One of the more popular brands is Birkenstock. This is a brand that offers quality products and typically has great reviews from their customers. Like any pair of shoes you buy, you want to make sure you do your research and pick a pair that calls out to you. Many people buy on impulse and usually regret their decision. When proper research is performed and shoes are compared, you usually end up with a happy decision. Make sure you commit yourself to reading the reviews on that specific pair of shoes you want. This will give you the information you will need when choosing the right size and the right model.
What are Mule Shoes?
In the wide wild world of women's footwear, the vast variety of options can easily induce vertigo in the uninitiated. Who can keep track of the ever-changing array of shoes for females? It's almost impossible, but somehow many women manage this seemingly mind-boggling feat. This protean plethora of possibilities retains some semblance of stability despite the ever-swirling winds of fashion. One of these staple styles of shoes has been given the inelegant title of mule. Mule shoes come in a wide range of styles, but the one constant is that they are backless and slip-on. Some mules have open toes. Some have closed toes. Mules can have high heels or no heels at all. The ones that have closed toes may be pointy or they may be square. As you can see, mules are a huge category of shoes with unending options.
First of all, let's elucidate the origin of the word "mule" in this context. It has nothing to do with the animal which results from crossing a female horse with a male donkey. The name "mule" when applied to a style of shoe comes from the Latin word "mulleus" which referred to a type of ceremonial shoe.
Mule shoes are popular with women for an assortment of reasons. For one, they're convenient. What can be easier than sliding a shoe on and off? In a world where women's shoes often have all sorts of straps and buckles and confusing ways to put them on, it's a comfort to know that there's a type of shoe you can just slide into.
Another reason mules are so popular is that they can be worn with almost any outfit. Because they are made in countless styles, mules can go with jeans, a sexy mini-skirt, or a lovely evening gown. The versatility of mules is legendary and is a major reason why so many women have at least one pair, if not many pairs, of mules in their wardrobe. Shoemakers manufacture mules with thick, clunky soles to fit in with those trendier, more punk rock fashions. Other designers fashion mules with pointy toes and medium height narrow heels to match perfectly with a more professional woman's suit. Mules can be worn to work, to the mall, and to a rock concert.
Mules have been married with other shoe styles such as Mary Janes to produce Mary Jane mules, which is a style that has become very popular recently. To explain the popularity of mules, let's consider the animal kingdom. What makes an animal successful? They're able to change and adapt to a variety of environments and conditions. It's no different with mule shoes. They're popular because they've developed numerous adaptations to succeed in almost any environment.
Mules are popular amongst the ladies because they're convenient and suitable for almost every occasion.
Mules for Women
Everything You Didn't Know You Wanted to Know About Mules: Flats, Wedges, and High Heels
Though not as popular as they were in the 1970's and 1990's, women's mules are often praised for being both comfortable and unique. Mules, otherwise known as clogs (1970's) or slides (1990's) are shoes that are backless and have a closed toe. By the early twentieth century, they were most commonly associated with prostitutes, but Marilyn Monroe gave the shoe a much more reputable name in the early 1950's.
Much of the variety of the style of women's mule shoe trends derives from the height of the heel; with no specified heel height necessary to be categorized as such, mules can come in the form of flats, wedges, and high heels. Choosing which style to wear really just depends on personal taste.
The Flat Mule: Incomparable Comfort
One of the easiest and most comfortable shoes to walk in, the women's flat mule encompasses a look that is both casual and classy. The Karelia mule by Naturalizer offers a sleek shape, cushioned insole, and a woven bow trim that adds a touch of feminine flair. If comfort is of utmost importance to you, these shoes will cushion your feet without a doubt.
The Modernized Mule, Otherwise Known as the Wedge Mule
Though typically more of a classical shoe, some women's mule styles have been modified and modernized to match the styles of today. As wedges re-popularize, we can see an example of modernized mules with Alexander Wang's Trish Loafer wedge mules. With 4.72 inch wedge heels and a leather front flap with fringes, this loafer makes an entrance and stuns fellow fashionistas with its simple statement of absolute originality.
Keep the Mule Style But Add More Height
Reminiscent of the growing style trend of booties is the high heel mule. Keeping the same shape as the traditional version, the high heel mule often adds a slingback ankle strap in order to secure the foot in place while being held at an angle created by the stilleto. Dolce Vita's Manny high heel mules also take a twist on the original shoe shape, in addition to a 5 inch heel, by creating a peep-toe front, as opposed to the typical closed-toe women's mule shoes. High heel mules, while less comfortable than flat mules, often feel heavenly when compared to pumps!
Select Comfort!
Though, over the years, the popularity of the mule style of shoe has declined, women's mules still offer a comfortable and unique alternative to many other shoes that exist today. Because mules are not defined by the height of their heel, they can have heels of any height and thus we can see mule-styled flats, wedges, and heels. With the diverse shapes and sizes of mules, the possibility of increased trendiness in the future is always a possibility!
